Vintage Oberammergau Text Books for The Pasion Play, 1960 and 19

Oberammergau is a small town on the Ammer River inn Bavaria, Germany and is known for its woodcarvers and its 380-year tradition of mounting Passion Plays every ten years dating to back to 1634 during the time of the bubonic plague.

Here are two fine vintage Texts from the 1960 and 1980 presentations.

According to local legend, the play is performed every ten years because of a vow made by the inhabitants of the village that if God spared them from the effects of the bubonic plague then sweeping the region, they would perform a passion play every ten years.

Both are in very good condition, though the 1960 Text does show some age fading and the 1980 Text has a prior owner#39;s name written on the inside cover flap.
