For private circulation only (presumably to members of the 1920s Savage Club quot; The Combatquot; is a booklet humorously depicting the friendly arguement between Ross of Scotland and Hose of Borneo as to where the better hunting, life etc was.
It was edited by an quot;Aged oxford Scholarquot; and published in 1926 by A Walker and sons, with a string binding. In blue ink on the frontispiece is handwritten:
from quot;the aged Oxford Scholarquot; 18.11.38. I see no reason to doubt it is the handwriting of the editor of the piece, gifitng it to a now annonymous benefactor - the name (and page behind it) has a neatly cut out section, removing it (and presumably their association with the Savage Club) forever.
The booklet is complete otherwise in it#39;s entirety. It is printed on high quality paper and for a booklet that is 95 years old, it has very little foxing, just some spots close to the original string binding. The pages are rough cut, almost like they have been done with crimping shears which perhaps indicates the rarity and exclusivity of the booklet itself, it#39;s essentially handmade! All picture are complete. It#39;s a fun little read, a piece of social history or something a modern day Savage would like in one#39;s collection?
